A few words about us
Michael Carter Travel is a local family based company who have been trading for over 50 years.
Michael Carter Travel is a local family based company who have been trading for over 50 years. We specialise in long haul and tailor made holidays, furthermore we offer packaged holidays winter /summer sun as well as Cruise holidays.
We have recently moved from our old premises on Lincoln High Street where we marked a 50 year milestone to our new office where we have more parking options for our valued customers.
The company was founded by Michael Carter, who worked in the office until his retirement; Michael was very much involved in the business until his sad passing late 2019.
Michael’s son Nick has worked for the company for over 35 years and has taken the helm from Michael in the day-to-day running.
Nick, Diane Cheryl and Claire have over 100 years experience collectively and have all traveled extensively during this time, so have a wide range of holiday experience that they can share with clients.
Meet the team
Claire
Having qualified as a Travel Agent in 1994 in Hastings, I decided that ‘selling holidays’ wasn’t for me. I moved into the airline industry as I was living close to London Gatwick airport at the time. I gained lots of experience working for ground handler Servisair and was seconded to Britannia Airways in the late 90s. In 2000 I joined Virgin Atlantic at Heathrow before I moved back to Lincoln.
Having developed a passion for travel during my time within the airlines I was really happy to be offered a position at Michael Carter Travel in 2003. Something you will notice about the office and what really drew me to work here was the genuine desire of the staff to ‘get things right’. Whether travelling on a short city break or a Luxury tailor made Long haul holiday the level of care and attention does not falter. I wouldn’t be ‘selling holidays’ I was going to be working with people to ensure they had a truly memorable experience whatever they wished to do.
During my time in the office I have been lucky to travel extensively with my work. I have been to Canada- British Columbia with Travelpack, Lanzarote visiting as a guest of Prestige Holidays, Mauritius with Simply Luxury holidays, Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah with If Only…, California- Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara & Hollywood with Goldmedal. More recently Cheryl and I travelled to Cyprus as guests at the Jet 2 Holidays conference. I have also worked part time escorting travellers to Norway Orca watching and escorted families to Lapland to meet the Real Father Christmas!!
In addition to my ‘work travel’ I have also been to Australia – Sydney, Adelaide, Port Douglas – Kurunda Scenic railway & Rainforest and the Barrier Reef, Singapore, St Lucia, Barbados, Boston MA, Orlando, Fort Myers, Miami & Disneyland Paris…that I can think of!!
I have experienced the Inflight service on British Airways in Economy, World Traveller plus and Club Class. American Airlines in Business class, and I have flown on Emirates in Economy and Business class and Air Canada in Economy and Business Class. And of course having worked for Virgin Atlantic I have enjoyed their Economy, Premium Economy and Upper Class!
My favourite destination has to be Lapland. Despite loving the heat, 30 degrees and above is good in my book… I also love the snow! My husband and I took our daughters Christmas 2015 to meet the Real Father Christmas. The look of awe on their little faces will be a memory I cherish for ever…. A truly memorable experience!

I started working for Michael back in 1977, over 40 years ago! Apart from a year break I took when my 2 children were born I have worked here ever since.
The reason that I have been here so long is that I just love my job.
Working at Michael Carter Travel is like having a second family. The regular clients that I see frequently have over the years become friends rather than customers, we are often invited to weddings and celebrations!
One of the greatest compliments a client has every given to me is that we are not Travel Agents, we are Memory Makers.
During my years in the business I have travelled quite extensively, with my family and also on some amazing business trips.
Some of the places I have been to are the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Greece, Hurghada, Taba and Sharm El Sheik. I have also been to Tunisia, France… Paris, Disneyland, most of the Spanish ‘costas’, Cyprus, Venice, The Algarve and Lisbon. Recently I have also been to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Last year I fulfilled a lifetime dream and travelled to The Seychelles Islands. What a beautiful part of the world! I stayed on 3 of the islands Mahe, Praslin and the private island escape of Denis Island.
This year I headed for the Indian Ocean again and and spent a week snorkelling on the lovely Maldivian island called Addaran Select Meedhuparu. Again another tick off my bucket list.

Nick has worked for the company for 30 years and has took the helm from Michael in the day-to-day running. He has travelled extensively during this time, so he has a wide range of holiday experience that he can share with clients.
