Once it was all longtail boats, converted rice barges, and passenger ferries plying the Mekong River where it wasn’t unusual to share your journey with a local cargo.

While our travellers still enjoy the local flavour of these options for longer trips a new wave of river cruises is clearing the way for an intimate and luxurious, yet still authentic experience of Indochina and the Mekong.

Asia River Cruising

The concept for The Jahan is inspired by Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor who ruled over India in the 14th century, and is famously known for his enduring love for his wife, which saw the Taj Mahal being constructed in her honour. Like the Taj Mahal, no detail on The Jahan has been overlooked, with cabin design maximized for both style and comfort.

Private balconies

One of the highlights of The Jahan is that all accommodation, from the 12 entry-level Superior staterooms through to the two themed Suites, feature floor to ceiling sliding doors that open on to a large balcony, where you can relax in privacy as you enjoy the ever-changing vistas of the Mekong.

Accommodation options

Along with private balcony, each of the cabins features a king size bed and a combination of Rajera design flourishes and modern amenities. Stylish wood-furnishings, decorative ceilings, soft lighting and luxurious cotton bedding combine to create a chic ambience, while all your daily needs are met with the most up-to-date conveniences such as sound system, air-conditioning, a bedside control panel and mini-bar. You can even enjoy a delicious coffee any time of the day or night with your own personal espresso machine in your cabin. There’s ample storage and for the perfect night’s sleep, even a pillow menu!

Superior stateroom (29m2, main deck)

There are 12 entry-level staterooms located on the main deck. All include large private balcony with table and two chairs, minibar, espresso machine, sound system, en-suite bathroom, traditional furnishings, and floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors.

Deluxe stateroom (29m2, upper deck)

The 8 Deluxe staterooms are located on the upper deck for optimal viewing from your private balcony.

Signature stateroom (36m2, main deck/32m2 upper deck)

As well as additional space, the four Signature staterooms include sunbed and table on your private balcony, and additional services including complimentary mini-bar and room service, daily newspaper, balcony breakfast and in-suite dining, personal butler service and one private candlelit dinner at the Observatory.

Taj Mahal and Shah Jahan Suites (50m2)

The white marble Taj Mahal suite and the Shah Jahan ‘lovers’ suite’ are the ultimate in personalised luxury on The Jahan. In addition to the full range of services available to Signature guests, the suites include a balcony Jacuzzi.

On board The Jahan

Service on board The Jahan is impeccable, but with the highest staff to passenger ratio on the Mekong, and training given both locally and in Europe, you’d expect nothing less. Exploring The Jahan, come across some of her world-class facilities. Stay fit on-board at the gym, then relax in the steam room/sauna, or practise Tai Chi which is offered each morning on deck. The small pool is ideal for cooling off after a days sightseeing, or perhaps indulge in the luxurious spa. The lounge area features movies and lectures to keep you informed and entertained, and the observatory deck has unsurpassed views on all sides. Feast on the exquisite range of local and international dishes in the restaurant, then retire to the lounge with large comfortable sofas and a library, or continue your evening at the exquisite bar.

On shore

A Mekong River journey is about meeting the people and seeing how they live – with The Jahan taking a maximum of 52 passengers at any one time, your on shore experience is more intimate and authentic. One of the highlights of The Jahan is the range of tailor-made on shore touring options available to passengers. Shore excursions can be booked on a private basis, so that you can explore each destination according to your own tastes, and at your own pace. Kayak the canals around Cai Be, visit floating markets, cycle to local villages or discover local bird life on a jeep safari – these are just some of the options available on

The Jahan.

Heritage Lines new flagship cruise ship, The Jahan, brings river cruising on the Mekong River into a new realm. Sister ship to The Jayavarman, The Jahan incorporates the features of a luxury boutique hotel in the form of a river cruise, sharing many traits with the popular Jayavarman, but with a number of additional features. With just 26 spacious cabins – all with large private balcony – private shore excursions and on-board services including spa, pool and daily Tai Chi, The Jahan offers the ultimate Mekong River experience for couples and small groups.
